This bed was brought into Hander Woodworking by a client wishing to change it to an Art Deco theme. She told Mr. Hander to "do your thing", giving him the job as an open canvas sort of speak. After studying the lines of the bed, Mr. Hander suggested flowing irises carved from thickly applied veneer and then painted to imitate the boldly glazed floral patterned china of the 1930's. With that, the client stared at him incredulously and then said with delighted amazement, "I'm doing the boarder of the room with irises!" at which point it became an easy endeavor to incorporate the designs. The floral pattern on each side of the foot board is raised and carved for a light, three dimensional effect.
