As seen below, this camel back trunk was brought into Hander Woodworking in poor condition with many missing parts and missing and bent metal. Missing leather handles were added, ash slats were reproduced, a new reproduction lock was added, and a cast iron latch that could not be purchased was reproduced out of rolled steel.
Looking at the stamped floral tin on the front edge of the top, one can see a slight gilding on the left and right edges where the original black metal overlaid. This was not plating, but rather, an original gold coating such as shellac, obviously stripped or worn off on the rest of the tin.
